Working in tandem with one of its Constitutional mandates of screening and confirming Ministerial Nominees for appointment as Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Upper Legislative Chamber on Thursday, July 25, 2019 continued the screening of the Nominees for the second consecutive day of the exercise.

Accordingly, the Senate resolved into the Committee of the Whole where as much as 14 Nominees were screened. The question and answer session of the exercise lasted for Nine Hours, from 10:00am – 7:00pm. Consequently, the following Nominees were among those screened in the second day of the legislative assignment:

1. Sen. Tayo Donald Alasuadura – Ondo State.
2. Abubakar D. Aliyu – Yobe State.
3. Mustapha Baba Shehuri – Borno State.
4. Maj Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi (Rtd) – Kano State.
5. Amb. Zubairu Dada – Niger State.
6. Timipre Martin Sylva – Bayelsa State.
7. Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo – Ekiti State.
8. Dr. Chris Ngige – Anambra State.
9. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu – Kogi State.
10. Mohammed H. Abdullahi – Nasarawa State.
11. Sunday Akin Dare – Oyo State.
12. Muhammadu Musa Bello – Adamawa State.
13. Sa’adiya Umar Farouk – Zamfara State.
14. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed – Kaduna State.

Meanwhile, the Red Chamber has suspended of one its Standing Rules to allow the Chamber continue with the screening exercise on Friday and Monday, July 26 and 29, 2019 respectively, which are non-sitting days of the National Assembly. The suspension of the Rule will accord the Chamber the opportunity of screening the remaining 19 Nominees and ultimately confirm all the 43 Nominees by next week.

Consequently, the Red Chamber has adjourned session to Friday, July 26, 2019 to continue the screening exercise.
