SENATE PASSES INTO LAW PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION BILL & CONGRATULATES NIGERIAN GIRL CHILD
The Upper Legislative Chamber on Thursday, October 12, 2017 has passed into law the Presidential Inauguration Bill, 2017 (S.B. 379), sponsored by Sen. Abdul Aziz Murtala Nyako (Adamawa Central). The passage of the Bill was sequel to the presentation of its report before the Senate by the Committee on Special Duties.

On the receipt of the Bill’s report, the Chamber resolved into the Committee of the Whole for the clause by clause consideration of the legislation. Clauses 1 – 9, short and long titles, schedule, memorandum of understanding of the Bill were approved as recommended or amended. Accordingly, it was read the third time and passed. 
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the session commended the sponsor of the Bill and the Committee on Special Duties for job well done.  

Similarly, the Red Chamber has deliberated upon and passed a Motion to commemorate the Nigerian Girl Child on the celebration of the United Nations (UN) Girl Child Day held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu (Oyo Central) came under point of order 42 to seek and obtained the leave of the Senate to present and debate the Motion under matters of privileges. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Sen. Biodun Olujimi and Rose Okoh contributed in support of the Motion and it scaled through with four resolutions below:
I) Congratulate the Nigerian Girl Child in particular on the celebration of UN Girl Child Day.
II) Urge the Federal Government to ensure the implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Act in all States of the Federation.
III) Ensure the domestication of Girl Child Act in the 13 States that are yet to domesticate it.
IV) Ensure the domestication and implementation of Violence Against Girl Child Act.

Meanwhile, the Senate has acknowledged the receipt of two Executive Communication from President Muhammadu Buhari. The letters addressed to the Senate President were seeking the screening and confirmation of Aisha Ahmed as Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the same for Prof. A. Festus, Dr. Aliyu Sanusi, Mr. Chikwendo and Dr. Aisha as Members, Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The letters were read on the floor of the Chamber by the Presiding Officer.
