SPEAKER UNVEILS A LEGISLATIVE DRAFT AGENDA FOR THE 8TH HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has made public what he termed "Legislative Draft Agenda" that will serve as a road map for the 8th House of Representatives in the next four years. The Draft Agenda presented on the floor of the House during plenary on Tuesday 23, June 2015 is hinged on a general principle of promoting integrity, good leadership and effective legislative prowess with a capacity to meet the huge expectations and yearnings of the people of Nigeria.
While highlighting some of the core points of the draft, he said that the house would assume a role in providing leadership and collaboration with counterparts’ world over to develop and implement effective communication through dedicated in-house Television and radio channels. Adding that a legislative initiative on Power, Security, House and urban development, Economic empowerment, North-east and Niger Delta will be floated. 
Dogara further hinted that the 8th House of Representatives is going to promote regular engagement with other arms of government and the Civil Society Organizations to achieve reform in various sectors of the economy as well as tackle the challenges of corruption, bloated cost of governance, wastages and revenue leakages amongst others. He averred that the House will not only be sensitive but accountable to the Nigerian people.
The Speaker commended the ad-hoc Committee drawn from donor agencies, Civil Society Organisations and ranking members of the National Assembly who painstakingly drafted the people oriented legislative agenda. He promised to establish e-parliament as recommended by the Committee. The Speaker, further directed that copies of the legislative agenda be made available for Members to study and prepare for subsequent deliberations, amendments and adoption of same.
Meanwhile, Hon. Dogara has announced that in the absence of principal officers yet to be appointed, the ad-hoc Committees on Welfare, Media, Code of Conduct and Rules and Business have been constituted to enable the House hit the ground running.
