House of Representatives, Set to Investigate Metele Attack

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution to constitute an ad hoc Committee to immediately commence an investigative process in order to unravel the remote cause of the lapses that occasioned the attack of Military formation in Metele where it was widely reported in both the social and main stream media that over a 100 soldiers were killed by the Boko Haram terrorists. The resolution was passed during plenary session on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, following a motion which came under matters of urgent public interest, moved by the Deputy Minority leader, Hon. Chukwuma Onyema.

He stated that despite the claims by the Federal Government that the terrorist group has been severely decimated, there seem to have been relentless and unreported attacks of villagers in some of the communities in Borno State. While he mourned the fallen soldiers, the lawmaker said it's high time the entire security architecture of the nation is overhauled.

In his response before putting the question on the debate, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara stated that at the heart of this matter is the issue of funding and management of resources by those at top echelon of the military command. He charged the Committee to thoroughly probe how funds appropriated by the legislature for the purposes of fighting insurgency are utilized.
Other members who contributed to the debate also mourned the victims and vowed to carry out thorough investigation and also to ensure that the patriots do not die in vain.
