Senator Dickson is an astute politician that has served in various professional statutory bodies.
He was member of the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria, a member of the Body of Attorneys-General of Nigeria, a member of the Bayelsa State Security Council and Vice Chairman, Bayelsa State Judicial Service Commission. In the House of Representatives, Hon Dickson represented Sagbama / Ekeremor Federal constituency of Bayelsa State and served as the Chairman, House Committee on Justice and also a member of several other committees.
He served his state as governor for eight year, the first ever in the state. 
He is also a Member of the Nigeria Bar Association, International Bar Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) Nigerian Chapter and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and many other national and international bodies.
