SENATE CONSIDERS N2.8 TRILLION NAIRA SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION BILL

The Senate Chamber on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 acknowledged the receipt of a N2.8 trillion Naira Supplementary Appropriation Bill. The financial estimates was sent to the Parliament via a letter addressed to the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was read on the floor of the Red Chamber during plenary session.

The Money Bill which sought to finance and boost the nation’s critical infrastructures as well as provide legal backing for the payment of palliatives to Nigerians aimed at cushioning the negative impact of the withdrawal of petroleum product subsidy by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

Ultimately, the legislation was accorded expeditious consideration by the Upper Legislative Chamber in view of its urgency. Hence, it was read the first and second time and accordingly referred to the Senate Committee on Appropriation for further legislative inputs.

Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriation, Sen. Solomon Adeola (APC Ogun West) said the Committee met with the Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. He disclosed that the Report on the Bill would be presented before the Red Chamber on Thursday, November 2, 2023 for consideration and passage.
