NASS RESUMES PLENARY AFTER YULETIDE BREAK

The two Chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday January 30, 2024 resumed plenary session after one month break. The period was used to observe the 2023 Christmas festivities and the commencement of 2024 New Year.

The maiden session of the Senate Chamber in 2024 was presided over by the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio (APC Akwa Ibom North West).

While, that of the House of Representatives was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen (APC Zaria Federal Constituency).

Both Chambers reconvened at a time the nation is experiencing huge security and other daunting challenges. In view of the prevailing situation, Members of the Red and Green Chambers accorded serious attention to the Security of the country by articulately deliberating on the issue and taking a decisive action on the matter.

Consequently, the Upper Legislative Chamber resolved to summon the nation’s Security Chiefs to brief it on the pervasive insecurity across  Nigeria. Thereafter, the Chamber will meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on ways of addressing the menace.

Meeting the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation became expedient following a Motion of Urgent National Importance sponsored by the 109 Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which scaled through with the above resolutions.

Nevertheless, the two Chambers of the National Assembly have adjourned session to allow the lawmakers participate in the Saturday, February 3,2024 rerun elections in some States of the Federation.
