Senate Confirms Umar Yahaya As Co-Chairman, Governing Council Of Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund 

 

The Senate, on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 confirmed the appointment of Umar Yahaya as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.

 

Yahaya’s confirmation was sequel to the presentation of the report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions before the Chamber for consideration by the Committee of the Whole. 

 

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Uba Sani (APC - Kaduna Central), said Yahaya’s appointment was in accordance with the provisions of Section 77(5) of the Finance Act, 2020.

 

The lawmaker disclosed that the nominee possessed the requisite academic qualifications, technical knowledge and professional experience to be appointed Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Fund.

 

Sen. Sani revealed that the Committee did not receive any petition against nominee, stating that he was cleared by the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and possessed the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement slip.

 

Ultimately, Yahaya’s nomination was confirmed after the consideration of the screening report by the Red Chamber.
