SENATE PASSES CANCER RESEARCH AND TREATMENT INSTITUTE BILL INTO LAW
The Senate on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 has passed into law the National Institute of Cancer Research and Treatment (Establishment etc.) Bill, 2016 (S.B. 10), sponsored by Sen. Olanrewaju Tejuoso (Ogun Central). The passage of the Bill was sequel to the presentation of the Report of Senate Committee on Health on the legislation before the Hallowed Chamber by Sen. Tejuoso for consideration. 

Accordingly, the Senate resolved into the Committee of the Whole, chaired by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki for clause by clause consideration. The Chamber considered and approved clauses 1 to 16 as recommended or amended in addition to the passage of short and long titles of the Bill as well as its Schedule Paragraphs 1 to 9.
Thereafter, the Senate President rendered progress report on what transpired in the Committee of the Whole and the Deputy Senate Leader, Sen. Bala Ibn Na’ Allah moved that the Bill be read the third time. Senate Minority Whip, Sen. Biodun Olujimi seconded the Motion and the Senate President puts the Bill on voice vote before the Hallowed Chamber. The Bill was read the third time and passed.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki thanked his colleagues on the passage of the legislation, he asserted that the passage of the Bill will go a long way in changing the lives of Nigerians and also add value to their living standard. 
Similarly, the Red Chamber has passed for second reading “A Bill for an Act to establish the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of Nigeria to provide for the control of its membership, to promote and foster the practice of the Arts and Science of Management Accountancy in the Federation and for other purposes connected therewith, 2016 (S.B. 236)”, sponsored by Sen. Barnabas Gemade.    

According to Sen. Gemade, the Bill sought to confer on the Institute the powers of registration of members, set standard, train and regulate Accounting practices in Nigeria and discipline erring members. He added that the Bill is no way in conflict with other professional Accounting Bodies like ICAN and ANAN, the law-maker urged his colleagues to support the Bill’s second reading.
Other Senators that lent their voices in favour of the Bill include Sen. Bala Ibn Na’ Allah, Sen. Theodore Orji, Sen. Shehu Sani and Sen. Ahmed Lawan. Consequently, the Bill was placed on voice vote before the distinguished Senators and passed. It was read second time and referred to the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service to report in four weeks.
