Representatives Celebrate the Nigerian Labour Congress at 40
The House of Representatives has congratulated and commended the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) as it celebrates its 40th anniversary of being in existence. The commendation came following a motion of urgent public importance moved during plenary session on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 by Hon. Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi praying the House to join millions of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to felicitate with the NLC.
He stated that NLC which was created in 1978 despite several failed efforts has indeed lived up to expectation of the Nigerian workers, adding that the NLC has over years persistently engaged the government through dialogue and other peaceful industrial actions to ensure that the average Nigerian worker is not shortchanged in terms of wages and other welfare entitlements.
The lawmaker seized the moment to salute the courage and resilience of the Ayuba Waba led EXCO and other allied labour union bodies for not relenting in their bid for better minimum wage that would help in cushioning the needs of average worker in the face of present economic realities.
In another development, the House Ad-hoc Committee investigating the utilization of N350bn Natural Resources Fund, proceed and investments in the steel and solid mineral sector has kicked-off its investigative public hearing.
At the opening ceremony of the hearing in the National Assembly complex, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kamale Adamu informed that the committee would try to work within the six weeks given it to achieve its mandate from the House, adding that in the execution of the assignment, the Committee has “unshaken resolve to uphold public trust above any sentiments and dispense firmness and justice to every stakeholder in this regard.â€
